Overheard.
at 12:49 AM Posted by Brad
Went to the IHOP tonight. Heard a lady say that the her steak was the "best she has ever had. So juicy and tender, better than the Roadhouse" she said as she turned to her friend and chewed loudly.
Then my brother coughed and farted at the same time.

Patapon. My new obsession.
Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 3:29 PM Posted by Brad

Ever since my girlfriend got me a PSP for Christmas I have been enjoying some very good portable gaming with some various games. Some RPG's, some racing, puzzlers, but nothing really captured the unique experience that comes from a really great handheld game. Well, a few days ago, I picked up the demo disc for Patapon and didn't put it down until I had beat the demo. Twice.
This game makes you hit certain button sequences in tune with a beat that is ongoing in each level to move your little troops forward, backward, attack,or defend. Each move has its own button sequence but all have to be hit on beat. It wasn't long before I was bobbing my head to the beat and tapping my feet as my little army destroyed the baddies. Not only is the gameplay fun and engaging, but the style is amazing. The colorful backgrounds contrast perfect with the black characters and weapons flying around the screen. Surprisingly there are lots of customization options to your army, weapons, equipment and attack style which adds a great amount of depth and strategy to the seemingly simple gameplay. This game releases soon at a price of $20. If you have a PSP, I would recommend picking it up.

Local used bookstore haul.
at 7:59 PM Posted by Brad
Pretty excited to find these two books at my used bookstore in town. I love the way these old books look and feel, and they bring a kind of anticipation when you open them to read. (something the Kindle can't do) Both of these were printed in the 1970's and are in pretty good condition. Not sure how people can keep their books so nice. Oh well, my gain.
Moo cards are in.

Not sure how much I like these, probably order some different ones. Cool company though.

Sciance Fiction Monthly
at 12:23 AM Posted by Brad
Tonight my random Internet wandering brought me to these amazing cover scans of Science Fiction Monthly. The publication ran from January 1974 to April 1976 and every single one offered these stunning, traditional art covers. I believe that SFM was a large (A2) over-sized publication making these covers the size of small posters, and the actual posters on the inside folded out even bigger (I think A3 size). Being a huge science fiction fan, I would love to get my hands on these, but they currently go for far more than I am willing to spend. They would look great all together on a wall. Maybe someday. Enjoy.

No. Don't be stupid. It can never be too thin. The Macbook Air is one small stylish semi powerfull notebook. Weighing just three pounds, less than an inch thick and boasting an intel chip that is 60% smaller. Amazing. Drawbacks? Sure. Can't replace the battery yourself. Not enough USB/Firewire ports. Ipod classic HD, which if you have an ipod classic, you know why that is a bad thing. Still, despite these setbacks Air is very very impressive. I can't wait to make a trip into the Apple store and try out the new touch pad, and hopefully pick it up. (literally pick the notebook up in my arms, not purchase) Well done.

Why have I not finished this book?
Monday, January 14, 2008 at 9:34 AM Posted by Brad

I have no idea why I have not finished this book. I enjoy it, I love reading it, but for some reason I always get distracted from it. I need to finish it. I am about 3/4 of the way through and I am tired of hearing references to this universe and ashamed that I have not completed it. Now only if I could find my copy....

Bring on the good stuff.
at 2:35 PM Posted by Brad
I know 2008 has just started, but I need some new music post haste. I am drying up and getting very bored every time I scroll through my ipod. Hopefully this year will feature as many great albums as 2007 did, causing me to have to upgrade to a bigger ipod to fit it all. I need to get back to writing about music on here more. I need to get better at writing.

My mac in 2008
Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at 9:05 PM Posted by Brad
I know I said I would not be making any resolutions this year, but the more I thought about it the more fun it sounded to put together some goals this year detailing my Apple purchases/pans. Things I want, thing I need, and some predictions of products yet to come.
1) Purchase new fully loaded Macbook Pro
2) Strongly consider a 3G iPhone if one is announced
3) Apple rolls out ultraportable laptop, makes me wish I had more money
4) Learn how to fully use Terminal
5) Become 100% portable. Cell phone/computer/email/media - everything
6) Incorporate smart folders to improve productivity
7) Get rid of the clutter - clean up some of the useless crap on my HD
8) Use iCal more efficiently
9) Back up my HD more often
10) Cut back daily on time spend at computer
Some of these are reasonable and will happen, some will never happen, and others I am sure I will start and never finish. The overall themes here are efficiency and mobility. Both working together to help me stay more organized and better manage my time in front of the computer.

Christmas 2007. Hello 2008.
at 1:26 PM Posted by Brad
This year I was fortunate enough to get Christmas Eve off and have more time back in Ohio with my family. Christmas was excellent like always, but Kyle was not able to be with us as he is still in South Korea teaching. However, he was able to interact with us via video chat on his and my parent's Powerbooks. This was the next best thing to having him there because he was able to see all of us, see us open his presents he sent, and talk/hear us all in real time. So if anybody saved Christmas this year for the Weller Five, it was Steve Jobs - thanks so much.
No resolutions. Every year I make a weak attempt to make some new year resolutions and every year I fail to keep them. So this year, no resolutions. I feel better.
This year will feature some big changes for me. I am leaving my full time job and starting my own business along with Kyle in Columbus Ohio. Wellerfotography is going live and hopefully be a huge success as many of loan payments are depending on it.
All in all 2007 was a good year, not too bad. I can do better, I will do better.
